Saw Palmetto

Short answer

We found no documented interaction between Carnitine and Saw palmetto in the sources below. That isn't proof the combination is right for you: check each one's cautions, and ask your pharmacist if you take medication.

Carnitine

What it is: A nutrient the body makes and gets from meat; it helps turn food into energy.

What the research says: Healthy people make all they need. Results for dementia and other conditions are mixed.

Cautions

  • 3 g a day or more can cause nausea, cramps, diarrhea and a fishy body odor.
  • High amounts may cause muscle weakness in kidney disease and raise seizure risk in people with seizure disorders.

Medicines to check

  • Some anti-seizure medicines (phenobarbital, valproic acid) and long-term use of some antibiotics can lower carnitine levels

Saw palmetto

What it is: Berries from a small palm tree, sold mainly for prostate and hair concerns.

What the research says: A 2023 review of 27 studies found saw palmetto probably doesn't help urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate. There isn't enough evidence for other uses, including hair loss.

Cautions

  • Well tolerated in studies lasting up to 3 years; side effects are mild (stomach upset, dizziness, headache).
  • It doesn't appear to change PSA test results.
  • May be unsafe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Medicines to check

  • Talk to your clinician if you take any medicine

Stop Guessing Your Dosages.

Balancing dosages across multiple different bottles is risky, inefficient, and expensive. Taking too much of one can blunt the absorption of the other.

Holitro completely solves this. We combine synergistic ingredients into one perfectly dosed daily pack, scientifically formulated for maximum absorption.
