Short answer

We found no documented interaction between Berberine and Taurine in the sources below. That isn't proof the combination is right for you: check each one's cautions, and ask your pharmacist if you take medication.

Berberine

What it is: A compound from plants such as barberry and goldenseal, used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.

What the research says: It may lower cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar, but the effect may be small and lifestyle changes are still needed.

Cautions

  • Mild side effects can include appetite loss, upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation and rash.
  • Not for pregnancy or breastfeeding: it may harm newborns.

Medicines to check

  • Immune-suppressing drugs such as tacrolimus or cyclosporin: berberine may raise their levels
  • Some diabetes drugs (sulfonylureas)
  • Many prescription drugs processed by the liver: berberine may make them less effective
  • Bosutinib (a cancer drug)

Taurine

What it is: An amino acid from meat, dairy and seafood that the body can also make; it's involved in heart, muscle and nerve function.

What the research says: A few studies suggest it may lower blood pressure. It didn't improve blood sugar in overweight men, and exercise results are mixed.

Cautions

  • Very large amounts of taurine together with alcohol or caffeine (as in energy drinks) have been linked to severe reactions, including deaths.

Medicines to check

  • Blood-pressure medicines: taurine may add to their effect

Stop Guessing Your Dosages.

Balancing dosages across multiple different bottles is risky, inefficient, and expensive. Taking too much of one can blunt the absorption of the other.

Holitro completely solves this. We combine synergistic ingredients into one perfectly dosed daily pack, scientifically formulated for maximum absorption.
