Can I take Glutamine with Zinc?

Understanding the interactions, benefits, and safety of combining these two powerful supplements.

Glutamine
+
Zinc

Short answer

We found no documented interaction between Glutamine and Zinc in the sources below. That isn't proof the combination is right for you: check each one's cautions, and ask your pharmacist if you take medication.

Glutamine

What it is: An amino acid the body makes and uses for energy and to build protein.

What the research says: It has little or no benefit for strength or recovery. It's studied mainly in cancer care and after surgery.

Cautions

  • Studies report no side effects at up to 45 g a day for several weeks; reported side effects elsewhere include headache and nausea.
  • Don't confuse it with glutamate, which is a different substance.

In Holitro: Glutamine (750 mg per capsule)

Zinc

What it is: An essential mineral for the immune system, wound healing, taste, and making DNA and proteins.

What the research says: Zinc is needed for normal immune function; it's commonly taken to make sure intake is adequate.

Cautions

  • Adults shouldn't exceed 40 mg a day from all sources unless under medical care.
  • Too much for a long time can lower copper levels and immunity.
  • Very high doses can reduce magnesium absorption.

Medicines to check

  • Quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics: take the antibiotic at least 2 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after zinc
  • Penicillamine: take at least 1 hour apart
  • Thiazide diuretics can lower zinc levels

In Holitro: Zinc (25 mg per capsule)

Balancing dosages across multiple different bottles is risky, inefficient, and expensive. Glutamine is already lab-dosed in our Gut Pack, and Zinc is in our Immune Pack β€” either way, that’s one less bottle to manage.
