Can I take Triphala with Vitamin B12?

Understanding the interactions, benefits, and safety of combining these two powerful supplements.

Triphala
+
Vitamin B12

Short answer

We found no documented interaction between Triphala and Vitamin B12 in the sources below. That isn't proof the combination is right for you: check each one's cautions, and ask your pharmacist if you take medication.

Triphala

What it is: A traditional Ayurvedic blend of three dried fruits (amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki), used mainly for digestion.

What the research says: It's traditionally used as a gentle laxative. Most other proposed benefits come from lab and animal studies, not good human trials.

Cautions

  • There's little human safety research. Because it acts as a laxative, loose stools are possible.

Medicines to check

  • Talk to your clinician if you take any medicine

Vitamin B12

What it is: A vitamin that keeps blood and nerve cells healthy and helps make DNA.

What the research says: B12 prevents a type of anemia that makes people tired and weak. People who take metformin or long-term acid reducers may absorb less of it.

Cautions

  • It hasn't been shown to cause harm, even at high doses.

Medicines to check

  • Metformin and acid-reducing medicines can lower B12 levels (the medicine affects the vitamin, not the other way round)
